Bankruptcy Filings Down 14 Percent Over 12-Month Period, AOUSC Reports

Bankruptcy filings for the 12-month period ended June 30, totaled 1,311,602 filings; 14% fewer than the 1,529,560 petitions filed in the 12-month period ended June 30, 2011, according to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts’ statistics.

  • Chapter 7 filings, which 70% of all filings, down 16% to 914,015 from 1,083,671.
  • Chapter 11 filings, which make up less than 1% of all filings, fell 14% to 10,921 from 12,714.
  • Chapter 13 filings, 29 % of all filings, decreased 11% to 385,949 from 432,333.
